3. Earl Archibald DOUGLAS, son of James DOUGLAS, was born circa 1325. He had the title '3rd Earl of Douglas'. He married Joan MORAY after 23 July 1362. He died on [Julian] 24 December 1400 in Threave, Scotland. He was buried in Bothwell Castle, Lanarkshire, Scotland.

 

He was also known as Archibald 'the Grim'. He fought in the Battle of Poitiers on 19 September 1356.3 He held the office of Lord Warden of the Marches between 1368 and 1400.3 He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Douglas [S., 1358] on 14 August 1388.1 He held the office of Conservator of a peace with the English on 16 July 1390.3.

 

Joan MORAY, daughter of Sir Morice MORAY ( - ) and Joan MENTEITH ( - ), was born between 1339 and 1354. She died between 1403 and 1409. She and Archibald DOUGLAS had the following children:
