1. George BASSETT, son of the Venerable William BASSETT Archdeacon of Stow, Lincoln (1703-1765) and Elizabeth WHICHCOT (1705-c. 1774), was born on 27 September 1740. He was a Clergyman.
George was the vicar at the marriage of his sister Lydia to William Martindale. According to Lincolnshire Pedigrees he followed his father as vicar of Glentworth in 1756; rector of Toft-by-Newton in 1768; resigned about Easter 1779; then vicar of Gainsborough and Willoughton; died at Bath 16 December 1796 aged 57. He was buried at Glentworth.
