Lady Margaret STEWART Lady of Galloway (aft1367-bef1456)

1. Lady Margaret STEWART Lady of Galloway, daughter of King Robert III (John) Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND (1337-1406) and Annabel DRUMMOND (c. 1350-c. 1401), was born between 1367 and 1401. She had the title 'Lady of Galloway'. She died between 1450 and 1456. She married Archibald DOUGLAS.

Archibald DOUGLAS and Margaret STEWART had the following children:

Elizabeth DOUGLAS (aft1385-bef1451). Elizabeth was born between 1385 and 1401. She died before 1451.

Second Generation

2. King Robert III (John) Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND, son of King Robert II Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND and Elizabeth of Rowallan Mure, was born in 1337. He had the title 'King of Scotland'. He died on [Julian] 4 April 1406. He married Annabel DRUMMOND.

On April 4, 1406 King Robert III died, he once described himself as "the worst of kings and the most miserable of men." The eldest son of King Robert II and grand-son of Robert the Bruce, he was crippled following a riding accident in 1388. Robert succeeded his father to the throne in 1390, but was not really suited to being monarch, with his ambitious brother, the Duke of Albany, in reality running the kingdom. Robert's eldest son, the Duke of Rothesay, was imprisoned at Falkland by Albany, where he starved to death. Robert sent his younger son, who would become King James I, to safety in France, but the news that James had been captured by the English killed Robert. Robert is buried in Paisley Abbey where, in the 19th century, Queen Victoria paid for the construction of a memorial to him.

3. Annabel DRUMMOND was born circa 1350. She died circa October 1401. She and Robert III (John) Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND had the following children:

4. King Robert II Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND, son of Walter STEWART and Princess Margorie Bruce PRINCESS OF SCOTLAND, was born on [Julian] 2 March 1316. He had the title 'King of Scotland'. He died on [Julian] 19 April 1390. He married Elizabeth of Rowallan Mure. He married Eupheme de Ross, Countess of Moray.

Robert II married four times and had 6, 8, 1 and 11 children respectively with those four wives, of which Elizabeth Mure was the last. It is interesting to note that two of her children were called Robert, the sixth adn eighth!

Eupheme de Ross, Countess of Moray and Robert II Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND had the following children:

Elizabeth STEWART ( - )

5. Elizabeth of Rowallan Mure, daughter of Sir Adam of Rowallan Mure and Jannet UNK of Polkelly, was born. She appeared in the census. She died before 1354.

Elizabeth Mure (Muir) was said to be born at Rowallan Castle. Her parents were Sir Adam Mure of Rowallan or Rawalla, Ayrshire and Joan Cunningham[1] or Janet Mure of Ponkelly or Pokellie[2].

She initially became the Steward's mistress. He married her in 1336 but the marriage was criticised as uncanonical, so he remarried her in 1349 following a papal dispensation dated at Avignon 22 November 1347.

She died before her husband inherited the crown at the rather advanced age of 54, and he married again (Papal Dispensation dated 2 May 1355), so she was never queen of Scotland.

Robert II Stewart KING OF SCOTLAND and Elizabeth of Rowallan Mure had the following children:
