1. William d'Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel, son of William d'Aubigny, 2nd Earl of Arundel ( - ) and Maud de St. Hilaire ( - ), was born circa 1167. He died circa 1221.

 

William was a favorite of King John. He took part in the Fifth Crusade, and died in Italy on his journey home.

2. Isabel d'Aubigny, daughter of William d'Aubigny, 3rd Earl of Arundel, married John Fitzalan, Lord of Oswestry.

 

John Fitzalan, Lord of Oswestry was born in 1200. He died in 1240. He and Isabel d'Aubigny had the following children:

John FitzAlan, Lord Oswestry, Clun, and Arundel (1223-1267)

3. John FitzAlan, Lord Oswestry, Clun, and Arundel, son of John Fitzalan, Lord of Oswestry and Isabel d'Aubigny, was born in 1223. He died in 1267. He married Maude le Botiller.

 

He is sometimes counted as 6th Earl of Arundel, although he was never called earl during his lifetime.

He was the son of John Fitzalan, Lord of Oswestry, from whom he inherited a great estate in Shropshire, and Isabel d'Aubigny, daughter of William d'Aubigny, 4th Earl of Arundel. After the death without direct heirs of his mother's brother Hugh d'Aubigny, 5th Earl of Arundel, he inherited a quarter of the earl's estate, including Arundel.

Arundel vacillated in the conflicts between Henry III and the barons. He fought on the king's side at the Battle of Lewes, where he was taken prisoner. On 26 May 1244, he obtained possession of his paternal estates in Shropshire.

 

Maude le Botiller was the daughter of Theobald le Botiller (1200-1230) and Rhese de VERDON ( - ). She and John FitzAlan, Lord Oswestry, Clun, and Arundel had the following children:

John FitzAlan, 7th Earl of Arundel (1246-1272). John was born on 14 September 1246. He married Isabella de Mortimer in 1260. He died on 18 March 1272.
